The Interstellar Government
aka the government
The government is based loosely on the US government. I won't go into detail explaining many things but relate concepts that one could research further on their own.
Overall: The Interstellar Government is one of many ruling bodies that inhabit the known universe. It is not based on any planet or planetary system, but is a collective effort formed to connect thousands of systems and galaxies; each who maintain a separate planetary government. Imagine the IG as a working United Nations that ballooned into it's own legal force.
Leadership: The IG is ruled over by an elected counsel of representatives; five beings from each planetary system. Within the Counsel, a single Executive leader is chosen. So the Executive is basically the IG president and the Counsel is the IG senate/house.
Military: The IG has its own military force, volunteer based accepting anyone from IG participating planets, neutral planets, or space-born. The rankings are complex due to the IG's large size but for our terms and purposes it has been condensed.

EG was manned by a Colonel who went on vacation and just hasn't returned yet. Major Dusty then is in charge of Eastern Gates' military force. Basically though, she runs a small police force.
Other Branches: Just as with most large bodies of government, their are specialized branches. A final number exists somewhere in the realm of imaginary though since specializations come and go. The most famous branch is Intelligence; a quasi-military branch that watches over many things and reports directly to the Counsel.
